Official | Pre-Conference VIDEC 2025 – Advanced Orthodontics BCV Prof. Dr. Chris Chang

In the modern era of orthodontics, self-ligating braces have reshaped how we create smiles. But how can we maximize their potential, especially in the most complex cases?

The presentation at the VIDEC Pre-Conference, themed " Advanced Orthodontics: Holistic Biomechanics, Force Control & New Approaches to Complex Cases," by Prof. Dr. Chris Chang – an international orthodontist – will focus on:

  • Modern Biomechanical Analysis of Orthodontics : Effective Three-Dimensional Force Control through the Innovative Passive Self-Ligating Bracket System.
  • Expanding the clinical treatment limits and effectively managing malocclusions ranging from mild to severe, from simple to complex – especially complex Class II or Class III malocclusions.
  • This illustrates how to select and adjust the appropriate force to achieve optimal results and shorten treatment time.
  • A new approach and treatment tip for Class III osteophytes/malocclusion using conservative, non-surgical methods.

The goal is to share fundamental principles and their flexible application in clinical practice, contributing to improved effectiveness of comprehensive orthodontic treatment plans.

The program report covers three main topics :

1/ Optimal torque control with the Damon™ Ultima bracket system.

Torque control has always been a major challenge when aligning teeth in three dimensions. With the Damon™ Ultima system, this represents a significant advancement in torque control right from the initial alignment stage.

  • The rectangular archwire design with rounded corners reduces friction while still generating enough force to control the rotational direction of the tooth root.

  • The double contact mechanism between the archwire and the bracket creates a stable and even force.

Damon™ Ultima not only shortens torque control time but also increases accuracy, reduces clinical error, and minimizes readjustment.

2/ Advanced treatment for Class III occlusion

Treating Class III malocclusion always requires a long-range control strategy, especially in non-surgical cases. The Damon™ Ultima system has opened up a more effective approach:

  • Longitudinal and anterior-posterior control effects , especially when combined with bone anchorage screws.

  • The bracket design, with its light and stable force, helps to minimize side effects such as unwanted tooth tilting or distal movement of molars.

With Damon™ Ultima, there are no longer limitations to handling complex Class III cases; instead, there is an additional, effective strategic tool with proven clinical efficacy.

3. Difficult situations become easier.

Addressing challenging cases such as severe crowding, midline shift combined with complex malocclusion, the Damon™ Ultima system will revolutionize the approach:

  • Effective from the initial stage , minimizing the need for tooth extraction in severe cases of crowding.

  • More precise control over three-dimensional movement , especially with strongly rotating or misaligned teeth.

  • High predictability , from torque control to space creation and closure – all seamlessly achieved thanks to the synchronized design of the bracket and archwire.

The Damon™ Ultima system not only helps to handle difficult cases – but also does it effectively and with less invasiveness for patients.
